My Words, My World

First drafts – A few pages in the large wilderness of the world of writing

About

Following a few years fighting and losing against chronic insomnia, one morning, at around 3am, I picked up a pen and scrawled words across a page. It was bad, but it wasn’t bad-bad and it was certainly an improvement on a book I’d just paid for, coming back from the UK.

The bug bit and I slowly grew into writing, drawing a bow-wave of the OK and not so OK but it’s a learning process and no-one ever stops learning.  In 2014 I came first with a short story in Writers’ Forum, which encouraged me and followed this up by an appearance in the Poestate poetry festival in Lugano. All was going well until I went self-employed, and my energies became channelled into that and my writing fell by the wayside.

Of late that’s changed a little, I’m finding a little more time and the words have started to come a little easier once more, certainly easier than sleep. Word of warning; a lot of my poetry was written at ungodly hours in a less than positive state of mind.

Thank you for taking the time to read through.

Chris

  1. Hi Chris, nice intro. Ask the wonderful Italian lady to take you further south into northern Italy, the lakes, the alps, the appenini and further down… 😉 it’s so beautiful and you should not miss it! I spent wonderful winters on the mediterranean sea on the riviera cause I love the oceans and the sea as well. Give it a try, its a perfect place for inspiration and quiet writing. So says another Italian lady…

    • Buongiorno Anna, great to hear from you. I go often down to Piemonte and Liguria, as her folks come from that region. Winter in Liguria is fantastic, it has its own micro-climate. I’ve yet to write there though.
